- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion diced
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 28- ounce can crushed tomatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 8 ounces cooked pasta
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and sweat until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic, then the dried herbs, and continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes and heat to a boil, then reduce the heat to maintain a low simmer. Season with salt and pepper, sugar, and the balsamic vinegar, then cook until thickened, 15-20 minutes. Add the infused olive oil, stirring to combine, then remove the sauce from the heat and melt in the butter. Serve over your favorite pasta with grated parmesan and chopped basil or parsley.
